Book description:
This extensive monographic album covers the crimes of the German occupation in Greater Poland and the Lodz region: so called Reichsgau Wartheland, Reich s "Mustergau" - "model district". The region became the arena of the most severe and discriminatory ethnic policies in all Polish territories directly annexed by Third Reich. The Nazis undertook extensive and merciless resettlements here, culminating in the introduction of the unprecedented and complete extermination of the Jewish population at the first Nazi extermination camp in Kulmhof. The Reichsgau Wartheland served as a testing ground for National Socialism, where the non-German population was denied all basic human rights, had their property stolen and were subjected to extermination. Album comprises more than a thousand photographs, the majority never previously published or of extremely limited circulation. The book comprises eight chapters that chronicle the history of the Wartheland from the viewpoints of the Polish, Jewish, and German communities.
