Book description:
In the shadow of the verdict on the city is a contextual biography of Col. Józef Szostak “Filipa” (1897–1984), chief of Branch III and chief of operations of the HQ of the Home Army. The life and career of this distinguished officer, cavalryman and staff officer served as a pretext for a detailed and critical analysis of the decision-making process at the HQ of the Home Army in the last decade of July 1944. The result was a new, in-depth look at one of the key problems of Poland’s recent history. In addition, for the first time in the historiography to date, the activities of the staff of the top commander of the Home Army during the Warsaw Uprising, of which Szostak “Filip” was one of the key figures, have been subjected to such a meticulous assessment.
