Book description:
Research on the Office for Religious Affairs is at an early stage. Although there are many publications on the history of the Catholic Church in “People’s” Poland, especially on its relations with the communist state, there is still a lack of studies on the structures, activities and people employed by the Office for Religious Affairs. The present volume addresses these topics. It discusses the functioning of the various voivodeship departments for religious affairs and selected aspects of the religious apparatus (at central and regional level). The profiles of two important figures of the Office for Religious Affairs were also presented: former Benedictine monk Jan Wierusz-Kowalski and Erik Sztekker. The publication consists of seventeen articles, divided into four sections presenting the voivodeship structures of the Office for Religious Affairs, its activities, legal aspects and staff profiles.
Published as part of the IPN Central Research Project: “Communist authorities towards churches and religious associations in Poland 1944-1989”.
