Władysław Tarnawski (1885-1951), professor of English philology at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv and the Jagiellonian University and leader of the Lviv National Democracy, admitted towards the end of his life that whatever he explored in his scientific activity, it always referred to Shakespeare.
In the book, Tarnawski is portrayed as a journalist, theatre scholar and keen observer of political life, for whom Polish Lviv was the “centre of the world”.
