Book description:
Aleja Szucha 25 - during the 1939-1945 German occupation, the headquarters of the Office of the Commander of the Security Police and the Security Service of the Warsaw District, its cellars housed the Gestapo detention centre - a place of execution of thousands of Poles, Jews and representatives of other nationalities. After the war, the Mausoleum of Struggle and Martyrdom was created here, and a modern multimedia exhibition was installed in 2008. This is one of the few places in Warsaw where cells with inscriptions engraved by prisoners have been preserved in almost intact condition. The publication presents the history of the detention centre and 63 biographies of people imprisoned at Szucha; they include military and civilians, soldiers of the Home Army, scouts of the Grey Ranks, members of armed and political organisations, women liaison officers, the Silent Unseen, and representatives of many professions. The whole project is documented with more than 100 archive photographs.
