Book description:

The album, prepared by the IPN Archive and the Kościuszko Museum in Solura, mainly presents the history of the Tadeusz Kościuszko’s grave monument and the Polish Chapel in Switzerland. These symbols of remembrance, which are unique to the Polish nation, are located in the village of Zuchwil near Solura. The publication presents archive photographs from World War II (from the collections of the Kościuszko Museum in Solura and the Military Historical Office), as well as numerous photographs taken today. This bilingual Polish-Swiss publication covers the following issues: Solura as the town where Tadeusz Kościuszko spent the last years of his life; the funeral of the Chief and the history of the creation of Kościuszko’s grave monument in Zuchwil; the history of the internment of the soldiers of the 2nd Division of Foot Riflemen during World War II in Switzerland; the Chapel of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, the history of its reconstruction and the naming of the shrine in 1942 as the Polish Chapel; the creation and activities of the Kościuszko Museum and the Kościuszko Society in Solura; a presentation of the history of Kościuszko celebrations organised over the years in front of the Chief’s grave monument in Zuchwil, visits to this historic site by Polish dignitaries, patriotic emigrants, delegations and numerous groups of tourists. The publication was prepared in connection with the 80th anniversary of the commissioning of the Polish Chapel. A commemorative ceremony was held in October 2022.

Authors of the album: Paweł Zielony (employee of the Archives of the Institute of National Remembrance), Teresa Ackermann (curator of the Kosciuszko Museum in Solura and member of the Board of the Kościuszko Society), Radosław Pawłowski (vice-president of the Polish-Swiss Society, employee of the Archives of the Polish Academy of Sciences, project coordinator at the Kościuszko Museum in Solura).
